How often is one asked to re-design something that has rarely been modified since its invention? Not often. The Equestrian stirrup has not had any major alterations since the “toe loop.” This is because of the classicism of Equestrian sport itself. When deciding to re-design the stirrup 50 years in the future, I had to reconcile the fact that it has not changed due to users reluctance to change and the fact that new materials are being invented every day.
The new stirrup, Demi-Vault has been designed keeping classic forms in mind whilst also employing new contours and a sense of fragility; a feature that has never been explored, as stirrups are usually made of steel. At the core of a stirrup, the purpose is to provide balance, stability and safety to the ride while also helping them to the peak of their ability. The ideal user of the Demi-Vault is a rider who wants to push their riding to the limit while staying on the forefront of technology and elegance.
